Overlord
A guild master left alone in a soon-to-end VRMMORPG walks the path of an absolute ruler in another world.
Plot
On the last day before the popular VRMMORPG 'Yggdrasil' shuts down, Momonga, master of the guild 'Ainz Ooal Gown,' waits alone for the end inside the empty home base, the Great Tomb of Nazarick. But after service ends he doesn't log out — he realizes he's been dropped into a completely different world, still in his game character's body. The trouble doesn't end there. The Nazarick guardians, formerly NPCs, have all gained personalities of their own, and every one of them treats Momonga — now Ainz Ooal Gown — as their absolute lord. In confusion, he begins venturing outside both to defend the guild's name and his subordinates and to find out whether other players have arrived in this world too. The core of the work is 'the perspective of the absolute ruler.' The protagonist is an undead with overwhelming power, but inside he is still an ordinary man worn down by social life. He keeps adjusting the dignified-monarch mask he wears — covering mistakes, meeting his subordinates' expectations — and the gap creates a unique mixture of humor and tension. Meanwhile, the humans, kingdoms, empires, and faiths of this world collapse helplessly before the power Ainz gradually reveals. Inside the familiar 'reincarnated in another world' genre, Overlord dryly traces how the world is reshaped not from a benevolent protagonist's perspective but from that of an absolute ruler with overwhelming power.
