Aura · Type classification

Aura Types

Aura types classify aura by where it's projected. The same aura cultivation can be turned outward through the body, focused into a weapon, projected into the air, or hardened into a defensive shell — and each direction produces a fundamentally different operation.

Four canonical types cover most operations: body enhancement, weapon aura, projection aura, and defensive aura. Each type has its own demands and ideal counters; type matters as much as stage.

On this page we walk the four types together — what each is, when each is used, and how they relate to each other.

Core characteristics

The defining properties that set this category apart from others.

  • Direction-centric
Splits aura by where it's projected.
  • Stage-independent
Different stages can use the same type.
  • Counter clarity
Types make it easier to read which beats which.
  • User-temperament
    Different practitioners suit different types.

How it differs from neighboring categories

Even within the same family, each category has a distinct character. Comparing side by side is the fastest way to grasp the differences.

When type classification helps

Best when reading the actual grain of an aura user's combat.

  • Single combat
    Reading a one-on-one aura fight.
  • Type comparison
Comparing two aura users by what they project.
  • Counter-design
    Identifying which type beats which.
  • Build design
Helpful when fitting a type to a user's temperament.

The four aura types

MoonWiki uses four canonical types.

Body enhancement

Aura projected into the user's own body.

Weapon aura

Aura focused into a held weapon.

Projection aura

Aura projected outward into the air.

Defensive aura

Aura hardened into a defensive shell.

Limits of type classification

Type doesn't answer every question.

  • Stage-blind
Cultivation depth lives on the stage page.
  • Hybrids are hard
Users who switch types fluidly are awkward to classify.
  • Varies by work
What 'projection' means looks different across works.

How type classification is used

Read each type alongside its neighbors.

First, identify the dominant type the user projects.

Then put it alongside neighboring types to see contrast.

Finally, layer the user's stage on top to round out the picture.

Digging deeper into types

Open each type directly.

Start with Body Enhancement for the closest projection.

Move to Weapon Aura and Projection Aura for outward operations.

Read Defensive Aura for the defensive direction.
