Sorcery · Pact origin

Spirit / Nature

The spirit / nature pact origin draws sorcery's power from spirits — the elemental, geographic, and animal spirits that inhabit the natural world. Where other origins draw on ancestors, demons, or fate, this origin draws on the spirits that share the same world as the practitioner.

Its strength is accessibility and balance. Nature spirits are widely distributed; almost any region has spirits a practitioner can approach. The operations they offer tend to be balanced — neither uniformly benevolent nor uniformly malicious — and the costs they ask are usually proportional to the operation requested.

Its weakness is moodiness. Nature spirits are not contractually bound the way demons are; they respond to the practitioner's character as much as to the offering. A practitioner who behaves badly toward spirits in general will find their operations suffering even when nothing specific has gone wrong.
