Aura Control Styles

Control styles classify aura users by how they operate their aura — the economy, refinement, and rhythm of their operations. Where stages ask 'how strong' and types ask 'where projected,' control styles ask 'how skillfully.'

Three canonical styles cover most users: raw, focused, and refined. Raw operates with brute force; focused trims unnecessary expenditure; refined hits with maximum effect at minimum cost. The same stage and type can produce three very different aura users depending on control style.

On this page we walk the three control styles together — what each is, when each is used, and how the gaps between them really play out.

This page covers the major branches of aura control styles and the differences between them.

Core characteristics

The defining properties that set this category apart from others.

  • Operation-centric
Splits aura users by how skillfully they operate.
  • Cross-stage
All three styles can appear at any stage.
  • Cross-type
All three styles work across all aura types.
  • Skill-defining
Decides whether a user is wasteful or efficient.

How it differs from neighboring categories

Even within the same family, each category has a distinct character. Comparing side by side is the fastest way to grasp the differences.

When control style classification helps

Best when reading the actual quality of an aura user's operation.

  • Reading skill
Distinguishing a skilled user from a wasteful one.
  • Predicting fatigue
Estimating how long a user can sustain operations.
  • Counter-design
Identifying which control style is vulnerable to which counter.
  • Build design
Helpful when designing a character with specific control style.

The three control styles

MoonWiki uses three canonical control styles.

Raw style

Brute-force operation. High output, high cost.

Focused style

Trims unnecessary expenditure. Reliable, efficient.

Refined style

Maximum effect at minimum cost. The master's style.

Limits of control style classification

Style doesn't answer every question.

  • Stage-blind
Cultivation depth lives on the stage page.
  • Type-blind
Where aura is projected lives on the type page.
  • Hybrid users
Users who switch styles fluidly are awkward to classify.

How control style develops

Style refines as the user climbs.

Beginner aura users almost always start in the raw style — they don't yet have the refinement to do anything else.

Mid-rank users typically refine into focused style as they gain experience and economy.

High-rank users move toward refined style; not all do, and the ones who don't typically don't reach peak.

Peak users operate almost entirely in refined style; the raw style appears only as a deliberate choice for specific moments.
