Plot
Xuanzang travels the world by the conviction that demons can be reformed without killing. But real demons cannot be handled by ideals alone, and through many trials he experiences both the limits of the mercy he has believed in and the necessity of force. The successive duels — pig demon, fish demon, Sun Wukong — collapse the pilgrim's naivety while leading him to deeper insight. The work is both a reinterpretation of Journey to the West and a unique fantasy film that mixes laughter and horror, asceticism and violence.
