Dragon Age: Origins

BioWare Electronic Arts 2009 Released
PCPlayStationXbox

A Grey Warden faces the Darkspawn calamity and stitches a broken order back together.

Overview

The kingdom of Ferelden trembles before the underground armies of the Darkspawn and the signs of the great Blight that drives them. The player begins as a character of one of several distinct origins, becomes a member of the Grey Wardens, and survives the noble politics and betrayals of the kingdom. From there, the player persuades or coordinates the Dwarves, the Mages, the Elves, and the noble factions to build a coalition, ultimately marching into the final war to stop the Archdemon and the Blight. The work weights the process of stitching together the wounds and distrust of multiple communities into a single alliance more heavily than the heroic narrative itself. The choice of origin reshapes the early experience, and the values, religions, and politics of the companions clash to produce the relational drama characteristic of party RPGs.
