Dark Souls
In an age of fading flame, a cursed undead confronts the meaning of the cycle.
Overview
Lordran once enjoyed an age of fire and gods, but now the flame is dying and the world is sinking into decay and the curse of the undead. The player is the 'Chosen Undead,' walking this world on a pilgrimage that ends with a decision: extend the age of fire, or open a new age of dark. The narrative is delivered indirectly — through the placement of locations, item descriptions, the wreckage of bosses, and silent ruins — rather than spoken plainly. In the process, the player goes beyond simple action and is forced to interpret for themselves why the world fell. The core of the work is failure, learning, and repetition. After many deaths, the player feels not only the system but the world's emotion — solitude, obsession, and cycle.
