Overview
The player and their companions begin the adventure already infected by a Mind Flayer tadpole. The cause is no simple kidnapping — it ties into a vast plot that will shake the great city of Baldur's Gate and many other powers besides. Through the journey the player works through devils and divine emissaries, ancient secrets, religious authority, and the politics of the city, while building each companion's inner conflict and relationships. Combat follows turn-based D&D rules, but conversation, environmental interaction, and creative skill combinations move the story and the systems together. The core is freedom of choice. Persuasion, betrayal, romance, sacrifice, cooperation — every direction shifts the narrative significantly, and the relational weight characteristic of party-based RPGs comes through strongly.
